Did I Miss Something?
Good morning, GHers.
It’s been a little hectic around here since my kids go back to school on Thursday, so exhaustion won out last night before I could finish my post.
I watched Monday’s episode of GH, and found myself asking over and over, “Did I Miss Something?” So many things seemed so off to me, and while we’ve talked about having to “suspend our belief” quite often as a fan of soaps, some things are just a product of lazy writing.
For instance, every time I hear someone talk about the fact that Joss was taken from her room while her mother was down the hall, I have to ask, “Did I Miss Something?” Let me tell you something. A few years ago, after my first surgery, our neighbors reported a rash of break-ins, where simple valuables were taken, such as wallets and jewelry. I was terrified at the thought that someone might break in while I was home alone and unable to move. My husband got the security company at our house to install a full security system THE VERY NEXT DAY. Now GH is trying to convince me that the Jacks house, where the daughter of a mega-millionaire and the god-daughter of a mob hitman was the victim of a serial killer’s antics when Franco came into the house and tagged her room while she was in her crib, and where another serial killer (albeit her uncle, Jerry) came in and pulled her out of her room to sit with her in the family living room, didn’t get a top-of-the-line security system that tracks and records every movement? Come on.
When John came to town, he was hell-bent on bringing Sonny down. Now he’s gulping down drinks with Sonny at his restaurant? “Did I Miss Something?” I get that they share a common interest in McBain’s sister, but I just don’t see that McBain would be discussing cases with Sonny, simply on the principle that even though he didn’t kill Theresa, he is still a mobster! *sigh*
For the same reason, I had the same reaction Spinelli did to hearing that McBain and Jason were working together to figure out what really happened to Alexis and Joss. Moments before those two went on their boat ride to Spoon Island, they could barely stand to breathe the same air! “Did I Miss Something?” While I would never begrudge Mr. Easton a job, as he is a fairly new dad, I just need the writers to stop being so blatant in making John the resident superhero. That title belongs to Jason. Make him a really good cop – that’s something PC has been lacking for years! Just leave the cape to Mr. Morgan.
I love my therapist. In fact, there are days when I have to stop and count the hours to when I will be able to step into her office and unload all the things I don’t want to unload on my family. If I ever went in for a session and she flipped out on me the way the Ewan did on Kate before basically throwing her out of his office, I would have a nervous breakdown on the spot! Watching Ewan acting as though he were the one with D.I.D. with the still fragile Kate had me asking “Did I Miss Something?” all over again. Where did Dr. Keenan get his license? Could he not see what his meltdown was doing to his patient? I just don’t get this storyline at all. Then watching Kate take on a whole new personality – as Ewan’s wanna-be therapist was just weird! “Dr. Keenean, Ewan – Whatever you say to me will not leave this room?” Really??? And don’t even get me started on the fact that Dr. Keenan leaves his confidential patient files out in plain sight on a desktop filing system! I am more careful about my bank statements! Give me a break!
I may be a little resentful that Lante are getting the story that Jason and Sam were about to embark upon just as Ron Carlivati came seeping into Port Charles like a toxic chemical compound, but “Did I Miss Something?” Just a couple of (PC) days ago, Lulu was this career-oriented partner in a business endeavor with Johnny. Just a couple of (PC) days ago, nothing mattered to Lulu but The Haunted Star, and she was pissed whenever her husband wanted to play house. Now suddenly, it’s as if her floating club-casino sank out in the harbor, and she suddenly doesn’t even seem to care if it will make enough money to break even for the month. What the heck?
You guys all know I live in Jersey, just on the other side of the River from NYC. You guys must have also noticed that we are just a couple of weeks away from having to look back on the September 11 tragedy at the hands of terrorists. We will all look back with terrible sadness and respect for those who lost their lives. Unless we are watching GH, who apparently is going into September and towards this terrible anniversary with a storyline about terrorism. “Did I Miss Something?” Have things changed so much in the daytime genre that writers now think a terrorism storyline set in a fictional town in NEW YORK during the month when NEW YORK is most sensitive is ENTERTAINMENT for their mostly female audience? This is just wrong! I don’t care what the hell is in those vials! It could be spoiled milk for all I care! The word terrorism and the mass destruction of innocent lives it represents is NOT something I want to, or will, watch. Not only will I not watch, I have been calling in, emailing, and yesterday sat down and wrote a scathing letter to TPTB to let them know that if THIS is their new regime’s idea for getting viewers tuned in, GH is in deeper trouble than I ever imagined!
“Did I Miss Something?”
YES! As did we all, if we were expecting to see a new and improved GH, full of the stories and characters we have come to love over the past 49.5 years! YES, we missed something if you were hoping for romance and adventure and good, old-fashioned Love In The Afternoon.
At this rate, we will be missing our beloved General Hospital when it is replaced with some stupid “fluff” show that may be awful and axed in less than six months, but at least they won’t be planning a terrorist attack on our sensibilities.
In honor of NYC’s campaign against terror, I invite all of you to take a stand against this grossly negligent storyline. In NYC, we are all urged: “If You See Something, Say Something.”
You all SEE where this irresponsible and hurtful s/l is going. SAY SOMETHING!
This is not the way to honor the month of September.
