Focusing On The Things That Keep Us Watching

For The Rest Of My Life…

TGIF, GHers!

Well, friends, I am still trying to get my emotions under control over yesterday’s General Hospital!

Luckily, I had plenty of time to get myself together, as our power went out about half hour after GH was over. Remember when I said I’d be willing to sweat my butt off as long as it was AFTER GH? I guess God wanted to remind me that I shouldn’t make promises I’m not prepared to keep.

It was sweltering hot! The temp was 103, and with the heat index it felt like 110-115. We finally gave in, got in the car, and had my hubby take us on a long drive, where the power outage could not mess with the a/c ! Thankfully, by the time we got home, the power was back on when we got home, but we were warned that the next 2 days, it could go out at any time due to the continued heat wave. Please keep your fingers crossed for me!

(NOTE: THE POWER WENT BACK OUT THREE MINUTES AFTER I TYPED THAT SENTENCE, AND DIDN’T COME BACK ON UNTIL 2 PM TODAY!)

Wow! What a POWERHOUSE episode yesterday was, huh?

Not sure if ya’ll noticed, but those amazing scenes, and all fo that fantastic dialogue was written by Meg Bennett, whom by the way is Mr. Guza’s wife. She has since been let go from General Hospital as well, but if those were her last scripts…she could not have gone out on a better note!

I thought the script was fantastic all the way around…and all around town in Port Charles. The conversations had me leaning in, paying attention, and feeling for everyone! And when our shows can make us feel, then they are on the right track!

Our favorites in PC were doing plenty of feeling of their own. GH’s actors, whom I have always believed are among the best in daytime, acted their tushes off! They kicked things into high gear, and brought their A games, and our favorite soap was all the better for it!

I must admit that Sonny and Brenda scenes had not really been pulling me in this time around, but over the past couple of days (even though Brenda kept saying “that girl” when referring to Carly) they had my attention. I thought it was heartbreaking for their fans, because I did get choked up. Brenda thinking that she was going to be the one to end things this time around I thought was poignant. But when somehow Sonny had her believing for a split second that their marriage could actually be salvaged with a house in Sonoma, and then pulled the rug right back from under her, I thought the only thing missing was for Brenda to have walked out into the rain! Sonny is such a hot mess. I am convinced that the power he needs so badly is what really drove him to suck Brenda back in before ripping her loose again. He couldn’t really hand;e her being the one to end it. Not really. Just like he couldn’t deal with hearing she’d left with Jax. Do I think Sonny’s argument had merit? Absolutely. That life he was teasing about would be a lie for him. And it would be a lie for Brenda. And so their life together would be a lie. He sees with new eyes that Brenda cannot live his life, and Brenda finally sees the same thing. Love wasn’t enough to conquer that. Living a lie like that would really mean that they weren’t really loving each other – just the person they wished the other person was. Still, it was a sad good-bye, and they both vowed, Sonny to Carly and Brenda to Robin that they would love each other “For The Rest Of My Life”… I just don’t think that the person they left behind is the person that they’ll love forever. Those people don’t really exist anymore, if they ever really did at all.

I thought it was important to the integrity of Jax’s character that he had kind words to share with Carly’s boys, especially with Morgan, because they really did spend more “Father-son” time together over the years. I am glad that they allowed Morgan to be torn, because let’s face it, even though Morgan was angry with Jax about a lot of things, Jax was a dad to Morgan. The dialogue was a nice way to honor that. I thought it was also great to have seen just how much growth Michael has had over the past year. He treated Jax with respect, and I think that was the right thing to do. Michael and Morgan should never have been dragged into this fight between Carly and Jax, but they were. I am just glad to see that Michael didn’t try to undo everything that Jax has done for them because of this one issue with Josslyn’s custody fight. Michael and Jax, too had some good times. I’m glad Michael honored that with his behavior towards Jax. It was more than I could say for Carly, who actually thanked Sonny for what he did to Jax. I have a problem with that because Carly should not be allowed to have it both ways either. She told the boys, and just about anyone else who has asked, that she didn’t know what Sonny was going to do to Jax. That may be true, but even after she found out, she sat back and let the chips fall where they may. That takes away her innocence on the whole deal, and Carly was his wife. She didn’t honor his place in her life, or the boys’ lives, or in Josslyn’s life. Someday, if Josslyn were to ask her about it, trust me when I tell you that Joss would not be okay with Carly’s role in taking down Jax that way. Yet, Carly said she’d love Jax “For The Rest Of My Life.” I’m just kinda thinking that “with love like that…who needs hatred?”

Well, can you believe it? JaSam fans are finally getting the storyline they’ve always dreamed of for their couple! Jason and Sam are actually tying the knot!

And to quote a more romantic Jason than I ever could have imagined…”BELIEVE IT!”

Yesterday’s writing continued to be emotional on all fronts, especially with the road that led to the rooftop for Jason and Sam.

Nothing was going to deter Jason from asking Sam to be his wife. Not even the fact that the pricey one-of-a-kind diamond was not recovered, and not even the fact that Maxie, whose fault it was, thought he just “couldn’t” propose without a ring! Jason knew one thing, and one thing only. Tonight was the night he was going to propose to Sam, Come hell or high water.

I also thought Sam’s scenes with Alexis were paramount to the fears Sam has been struggling with lately. The last time she and Jason were together, Alexis had the most instrumental role in breaking them up and setting off a chain reaction of disaster to the worst summer in Port Charles’ History. While I strongly believe that Sam wouldn’t let Alexis’ feelings stop her from a life with Jason, I do believe that having her blessing only gave Sam a sign she didn’t really even know she was looking for. I was thrilled with Alexis’ reaction to it, with her honesty about it, and with the fact that Alexis realized that not even she, with her law degree and “law-abiding” *cough* lifestyle, has ever had the depth of Love and Happiness that Jason and Sam have. Nicely done, Ms. Bennett!

From the moment Sam walked onto that rooftop and asked if she was late, and Jason looked at her in that way he does, and answered, “You’re perfect,” I knew it was a precursor to how I would feel about the proposal.

The thing I loved most, I must admit, is that Jason really was unsettled. He was nervous, he was excited, and at times, he was speechless, while at other times, he was starting to sound a little like Sam when she starts babbling. I loved when Sam mentioned that the blue shirt matched his eyes, and Jason answered with, “You want me to wear blue? I mean, black works  for work, but I can wear blue for you.” 😉

Wow!

And what about when Sam said that “Molly didn’t get that candles, and dinners and rooftops have nothing to do with real love”, and Jason answered, “Well tonight they do.” *thud*

I think the writing was meticulous in covering all of the bases. They knew the nay-sayers would question how he could be moving on after losing Jake, so Jason explained to Sam that losing his son taught him to “Never take time, or Love for granted again.”

The writers had Jason address the fact that maybe Sam may have had reason to feel underappreciated, so he let her know in no uncertain terms that she meant everything to him. I loved the way that proposal came out. “I love you so much, and I would be honored to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” (No one makes that sound as sexy as Jason!)

They expected that no matter what Sam said, haters would say that this was what she wanted all along, so they made sure that not only did she keep Jason guessing about whether or not this was what she really wanted at all, they also answered to all of those who’ve said that Sam is “too easy” on Jason by giving her a voice.  And Sam used that voice to tell Jason that she didn’t care if she was Mrs. Jason Morgan or Sam McCall, she was already happy, and all she wanted was him, for the rest of her life.

To which Jason romantically answered, “You have me. Every day. For the rest of my life.” (I almost fainted!)

And when Sam told Jason, “You got to ask me the way you wanted, now I need to answer the way I want.” Good for Sam! This is one of the biggest decisions of her life! Her voice matters!

I guess the writers even knew that whether Jason gave Sam a ring or not, there would be something to talk about either way. So, they did the only thing they could: they gave us all something to talk about alright. They showed that it meant enough to Jason to get her the perfect ring. They also showed that Sam wasn’t waiting to check the cut and clarity. Most importantly, they showed that both Jason and Sam understood the symbolism of the engagement ring. I loved their little talk about the ring, and how Sam would think it was perfect as long as he was the one giving it to her, and Jason saying, “Don’t say that until you’ve seen it!”

Jason and Sam are not just in love, they have fun together, and why should there proposal be anything less than that? I thought the lug nut ring was a twist that only Jason and Sam could pull off! It was perfection!

Their promise was sealed with a tangible symbol, AND A PRETTY SWEET KISS, and it showed how important that was to Jason. Just another sign that shows how much thought Jason put into making this proposal perfect for Sam!

Then it was Sealed With A Kiss!

Not only was there The Proposal On The Rooftop, but this afternoon when the power cam back on, I found out General Hospital sent out a Save The Date for Jason and Sam’s Wedding Date! September 23, 2011 (My reaction was a lot like Sam’s!)

How absolutely FABULOUS! (About as Fabulous as watching Jason do this…)

I just want the writers to know that we could also see how much thought they put into making it perfect for all of us patiently waiting fans.

Amazing wrap up, Angelique. I’m back home from work travel and even though I’d seen the you tube epi’s on my little google phone, I’m now re-watching them and falling in deeper with every scene. Wow September 23rd, huh? Feel like I should be taking off work that day or something. What should I wear and what do you get a couple that has a mobical (lol) penthouse? Only 63 more days…and good grief, can someone please buy Maxie a clue? If the ring is loose, you don’t shake your hand to show how loose it is…duh! What would have really been funny is if Jason tried to throw her over after it!

Angelique…your summary of the Jasam proposal was JUST PERFECT…Just like Sam…PERFECT. I cried right with Kelly/Sam. I always cry when she cries. She was so amazing in these scenes….and Steve..well, he’s awesome! This was a proposal I’ll never forget…EVER! My heart was pounding out of my chest as walked through that rooftop door and Jason turning around to look at his Sammy. They were dressed in the same colors as the RUN TO ME SCENE! It was so beautiful ..ever second of it. I loved the mention of Jake, and how the writers wove that into his proposal. LOVED IT..AND LOVE YOU!
