Focusing On The Things That Keep Us Watching

A TOTAL LOSS

Ghers, I am really happy that GH has so much history to draw upon, especially when the present seems a bit dull.

I am hoping that not everything that has happened thus far during this non-descript sweeps season will end up being A Total Loss…

I truly would have known that Michele Val Jean was writing yesterday’s episode even if I hadn’t seen her name in the opening credits. The amount of history revisited yesterday prompted by the burning down of the Scorpio house was truly touching. To hear Mac describe how it became his home, and then the home he shared with Felicia, Maxie, and Georgie was really nice. It made me think of some of those moments myself. For that reason alone, the fire was not A Total Loss.

Maxie seemed overwhelmed by the loss of her childhood home and all of the memories it held. Who can blame her? It’s not as though Maxie hasn’t had enough loss in her short life. I really love that even Maxie made a mention of her mother, Felicia, and thereby showed that even though her relationship with her mom is completely defunct right now, Maxie still held onto at least a memory of a better time for them. It also showed that Maxie doesn’t need a visit from her sister’s ghost to remind her of how much she misses Georgie. When Maxie said, “You know what’s killing me? Is that we lost Georgie again. All that was left of my sister was in her room, and now it’s gone.” Maxie is too upset to figure this out, but those were all physical reminders, but what’s really left of Georgie is the love they shared, and the lessons Maxie learned from her, and has yet to realize. I really love that the cool and aloof Maxie felt the need to unburden herself about her feelings. It proves that she’s a lot more vulnerable than she lets on. It also proves that the bloodline and bond she shared with both her mom and sister is not A Total Loss.

I think that for many Maxie and Matt fans, the fire helped Matt and Maxie to share a nice moment also, so for them it certainly was not A Total Loss.

Robin was also concerned about what had been lost in the fire, but Patrick served as her support system as he reminded her that there were other, more important things that could have, and could still, be lost – like Robin’s life. I bet the Scrubs fans were thrilled with the moments of reconnect that Patrick and Robin shared. It makes one hopeful, and hopefully it makes Robin realize that no matter what the insurance company says, maybe losing the house wasn’t A Total Loss if it brings her and Patrick back to a place where they can begin the journey back to each other.

Lisa is one gifted doctor, but she’s even more gifted as a manipulator. Sure, she really did do the right thing in saving Robin and Emma, most psychopaths would not have saved her nemesis and the baby said nemesis shares with the man married to same nemesis.  Lisa did, and even though she did a good thing, she is using even this to manipulate Robin, and how people perceive Robin’s mental state; namely Nikolas. I bet Lisa is feeling pretty proud of herself. Sure, her trench coat is ruined by soot, and yes, she’ll have a sore throat for a couple of days from the smoke inhalation, but I’d bet to Lisa, it wasn’t A Total Loss as long as it furthers her cause.

Poor Lucky. He finally finds a little something to smile about, and now her life is in danger. I love that Lucky is fighting for Siobhan as much as Dante and Jason are fighting for whatsherface. Of course her life is as important, if not more so, than the lying to save her own ass Self-centered One. I don’t want Lucky to lose another chance at happiness because of another selfish woman. He’s been there and done that; and it was A Total Loss. My only wish is that it turns out that Siobhan is also undercover, and that she can finally lose that accent.

😉

It seems to me, as a loyal and faithful General Hospital viewer, that in the grand scheme of things, the highly anticipated return of Brenda Barrett (although it seems it was most anticipated by Mr. Guza) is dangerously close to being A Total Loss to our beloved soap. With ratings down and widespread sense of viewers not caring what’s happening onscreen because so much of it involves her, it’s definitely a precarious position to be in for GH, especially during Sweeps. I am hoping that all of you are calling in, writing in, emailing, Facebook-ing (can I really turn that into a verb?), Tweeting, and generally spreading your concern for the future of our Favorite.

As for us JaSam fans, our disappointment and frustration should pay off in the near future. In case you didn’t read the interview of mainly Jonathan Jackson (with some Steve Burton, VMG, and Dominic Zamprogna), VMG clearly states that she “came back to work with Maurice (Sonny)” but they’re (Writers) are teasing a bit to make it more exciting. *yawn*

But, with our JaSam, it’s NOT A Total Loss. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I will take any kind of angst, and I’ll take it like a big girl, as long as it doesn’t involve infidelities. Angst always leads to a step forward, and I love that we’re finally moving forward, and possibly past, this story.

I also love that Jason wasn’t as deeply worried with Brenda being the bait as he was with Sam. While he trusts Sam more, the stakes for Jason are not as high or as personal as they are when it’s Sam’s life on the line. Of course, Jason wants to protect Brenda – it’s who he is, but when Sam was in this position, he was wrought with worry and tension.

I also love that once again, he sees that no one can be his partner like his Goddess. Once more, Jason gave clear instructions. In fact it was only a one-step direction. My classroom full of preschoolers could have understood his direction, but not this one. The minute she heard the Balkan’s man about to spill her secret, she took matters into her own hands. I wasn’t surprised. She always jumps the gun, does her own thing, and reacts with only herself in mind; further proving that Sam is always Jason’s best bet. In the line of fire, or in life, Sam is the one Jason can count on to have his back, to read his cues, and to get the job done. Sam is the one Jason wants at his side in these high-risk moments, and during these life or death situations. Sweetly, she’s also the one he wants at his side on a quiet night on the couch, and in moments where the only decisions are about ordering Chinese or letting Sam attempt another meal. Whether Jason is rescuing Sam from a dangerous enemy or a smoke engulfed kitchen, he wants to be her hero. And whether he’s been stabbed, shot, trapped, or all of the above, Jason knows she will come to his rescue…and Jason doesn’t even mind letting her do the rescuing. That’s magical, and that’s the reason I love and fight for my JaSam!

I am so looking forward to Jason and Sam finding their way back to their idea of normalcy. I can barely wait!

And if it plays out the way it’s been spoiled…it most certainly WAS NOT A Total Loss.

In fact, it may be a total win!

Much love,

Angelique

2006: http://bit.ly/a4tbZa I love when Jason is so paniced about Sam that he can’t think straight! 😉

Hah! It’s what I’ve been saying since Brenda ruined the “plot” to catch Mr. B. She wasn’t this generous kindhearted soul worried about Sam. She just wanted to get to him before he opened his mouth and revealed her BIG SECRET.
I think it’s ironic that Lucky is so incensed that Jason and Dante aren’t as concerned about Siobhan (someone they don’t know as well) as they are about Brenda. But when Sam and Lulu were strapped to Franco bombs he thought Jason should have saved his sister, not the love of his life. That shoe on the other foot isn’t fitting so good now, is it?

    • Deborah…

Your comments are almost EXACTLY what I was getting ready to write. I would like to add that Brenda not only wants to protect her butt and Dante’s butt…but, she’s still not telling Jason the whole truth. She doesn’t want Sonny to know any of this. I’m not thrilled that Jason has to keep this secret. After all, Sonny is his best friend. I wonder secretly if he’ll share this with Sam. I won’t consider it a breach of honesty if he keeps his “friend’s” secret. Jason’s pretty good about secrets when he makes a promise like that.

As for Lucky, I am on the fence with him. He’s a good guy with a slight selfish streak running through him….much like dear old Daddy.

Looking forward to anything that brings our Jasam closer together. I feel in my bones we’ve got some very good stuff ahead.

Thoughts running through my head after the last few days…

Um, GH writers, despite the recent storyline, I still remember watching VMG on GH years ago and on Las Vegas. Like our dear Kelly, she can act. Can we PLEASE end this nightmare, give her a storyline with Maurice and get JaSam something worthy of Steve and Kelly? I think the rating just MIGHT improve.

On a different note though, I’d like to thank the writers for how clean my house looks. When I get to FF half the show and not spend time rewatching JaSam scenes, I have plenty of time to pick up around here and clean.

I’m glad Brenda’s finally revealing her secret because I sincerely hope it is the beginning of the end. I also kind of like that Dante is still lying to Lulu – cause she deserves it and he deserves to get caught. This will be so much better than Brooklyn…

Now – on a brighter, maybe tearier, but at least more deserving note… After I was watching the 2004 scenes this morning, I had to run errands. We had a disney CD in the car, and the theme from Beauty and the Beast came on. Of course I would never describe the gorgeous SB as a beast, but other than that, the words just hit me as perfect following 11/2004. I love how INEVITABLE they make the love sound, both initially and for their reunion. Here they are…

    Tale as old as time
    True as it can be
    Barely even friends
    Then somebody bends
    Unexpectedly
    Just a little change
    Small to say the least
    Both a little scared
    Neither one prepared
    Beauty and the Beast

    Ever just the same
    Ever a surprise
    Ever as before
    Ever just as sure
    As the sun will rise

    Tale as old as time
    Tune as old as song
    Bittersweet and strange
    Finding you can change
    Learning you were wrong
    Certain as the sun
    Rising in the east
    Tale as old as time
    Song as old as rhyme
    Beauty and the Beast
