ALL MY CHILDREN
No, GHers, I haven’t switched loyalties and decided to write about a different soap. There just wasn’t a more fitting title for the dramas unfolding in the NY ‘burb.
Every crisis seems to involve one (or ALL) of the children of Port Charles’ most well-loved dads.
Let’s begin with Sonny’s many offspring, shall we? Dante and Claire are spending a lot of time together lately…too bad it’s in the common pursuit of putting Dante’s dad away for life. Dante is truly consumed with putting away the man who allegedly shot and killed Dante’s childhood hero, and Claire is obsessed with winning this case. It should be a successful partnership…but Dante is angry at Claire for implicating Michael and Claire is angry at Dante for apparently protecting Sonny by pushing to keep Michael off the stand.
Kristina is completely consumed by the lies she’s told…and keeps on telling. She’s also overwhelmed by the number of times she’s been asked the same questions, because it makes all of the guilt feel heavier. On Wednesday she had to beg for Ethan’s life and well-being to Lucky, Sonny, and Sam, which mean that she had to essentially tell the same lie over and over. The scenes between Kristina and Sonny were so heartbreakingly sad to watch, but a meaningful breakthrough. When Sonny was telling Kristina about his experience with his mother, Kristina got to see a part of her dad she has never seen before. And thank goodness, because Sonny also got to see what his daughter really sees when she looked at him: a dangerous, powerful man who decides who gets to live and who doesn’t. Perhaps now Kristina will have some insight to why her father feels he needs that kind of power. Perhaps Sonny will have some insight as to why Kristina felt she had to lie when the truth finally comes out. In the end, maybe they can help each other heal.
Also having “kid issues” is Luke.
Luke just found his son Ethan in a case of hidden paternity, and he’s terribly afraid he’s gonna lose him just as suddenly to a case of mistaken identity. Luke knows for sure that Ethan didn’t do go after Kristina and beat her senseless, but he can’t prove it. Ethan isn’t really helping his case, is he? He violated the restraining order to go talk to Kristina and ended up getting arrested….by his brother, Lucky no less.
Lucky is also knee-deep in Ethan’s mess. He wants to believe in his brother’s innocence, and that’s why he was willing to listen and help Jason try to figure out what really happened. On the other side of his brain, he’s struggling with the possibility that perhaps Ethan is more Luke’s son than he is in more than just his disregard for the law. Lucky has to wonder if Ethan could be capable of attacking Kristina because of what their father did to Laura. This case is more than personal to Lucky.
Lucky and his sister share more than blood lines with Ethan. Lulu is also struggling with the possibilities that Luke’s past represent. Lulu was furious with Ethan for violating the restraining order, and shares with her new brother that she’s having doubts about believing him. Ethan wants to know what it is about Luke’s past that automatically places this shadow over him, and Lulu drops the bomb. Ethan may wish he had hightailed it right back down under when Luke suggested it! He may also hope Lulu doesn’t visit too often.
What is hardest to watch about these family trees getting their branches all tangled up with each other is that Sonny and Luke may irrevocably damage their longstanding bromance over their kids. I was so happy to see Maurice and Tony showing off their acting chops face to face. GH has some of the longest-running, fan favorite characters in all of daytime. What a great idea to actually have them embroiled in a nail-biter storyline instead of just sitting around doling out bad dad advice to their younger counterparts! Way to go, GH Writers! 😉
Sonny’s and Luke’s children aren’t the only ones being affected…
Robin keeps defending her old friend, and “big brother” Sonny, much to her husband’s chagrin and even disgust. Robin went as far as to try and convince Juror Number Trouble how Sonny isn’t getting a fair shake. Don’t worry, Patrick. You aren’t the only one annoyed with you morally superior wife. It drives me insane that Robin would judge a litterbug, and yet she is breaking the law. Don’t get me wrong…I would do just about anything to help a friend too, but that’s not what’s bugging me. What bugs me is that Robin never takes into account why people do things. She doesn’t care about their motivation. Yet, she expects that courtesy for herself. Robin needs some maternal advice! Someone call Anna!
Sam is trying to be there for her sister, and she’s doing such a good job considering she has no experience to draw from. Sam has been through what Kristina has been through and a hundred other things, and she didn’t even have anyone to bring her a smoothie. Sam had to pick herself up off the floor, take herself to the hospital, will herself to hold on and get better, talk herself into getting stronger, and cover up her own bruises. Sam may not always know the right thing to say or do, but MY GOD, she is doing her absolute best, and to Kristina it’s everything! It breaks my heart when I see Sam trying so hard to reach Kristina, and to help her feel a little better and stronger with everything from Smoothies to eyeshadow to nail polish! When Kristina said “Thanks, Sam, it helps to know you’re on my side,” I cried like a fool. Why? Because at that moment, Sam not only helped heal her little sister, she helped to heal herself by being to someone else what she never had for herself. I LOVE SAM!
